New Monthly Spin-In

Fiberworks is excited to be offering a new monthly spin-in on the third Wednesday of each month.  The first meeting will be September 21st, from 6 to 8 pm, at the store.  If there is too much interest for our space, an alternate location may be chosen for future meetings.

So what is a spin-in, you ask?  It is a meet up of spinners, with all levels of experience, to work on a spinning project and share ideas, techniques and inspiration.  It is a relaxed environment, not a class, with plenty of opportunity to talk with other spinners.  Both spindlers and wheelers are welcome, but please bring your own equipment.

Questions?  Stop in and see us, or call us at (937) 429-YARN (9276).

Just Arrived!

Fiberworks is excited to be one of only two shops in Ohio to carry the newest yarn from Malabrigo – Caracol!  Caracol is a thick-and-thin bulky weight single, wrapped with a crisis-crossing thread to create a truly unique yarn that looks like stained glass windows.  The colors are literally breath-taking, and supply of this yarn is limited.  A sample of some of the colors is above, come to the store to see them all!

We also have some new needles and notions.  Floops are floppy, elastic stitch marker loops that are made to easily slip from one knitting needle to the other when slipping a marker.  These wonderful little loops are both soft and pliable, and have been so popular we have already had to reorder twice.  They are available in a range of sizes and colors, but the blues and purples will complement our newest needles, the Majestic wooden needles from Knit Picks.  Made of their signature colored and laminated wood, the Majestic needles are rich jewel tones with sharp points.  We currently have both tips and complete Options kits, with fixed circulars, straight and double-pointed needles on their way.

A final note – Fiberworks will be at Wool Gathering this weekend, September 17th and 18th.  Located at Young’s Jersey Dairy on US 68 just north of Yellow Springs, Wool Gathering is a yarn and fiber festival with sheep-shearing and herding demonstrations, alpaca petting, and over 100 vendors from as far away as Arizona.  Admission is free, so be sure to come and check it out.  Hours are 10 to 7 on Saturday and 10 to 5 on Sunday, rain or shine.  Our shop will also be open from 1 to 5 on both Saturday and Sunday, so please stop in on your way to or from the festival.

Socks Classes

Fiberworks is excited to be offering more sock knitting classes.  Please be sure to preregister and receive the materials list by calling the store at (937) 429 – YARN (9276) or stopping in.

We will be offering both Top-Down and Toe-Up Sock Classes on Saturday mornings from 10 am to noon.  Each session is $10.  Beginners will start with the top-down socks, while more experienced sock knitters will improve their skills with the toe-up socks.  Each method will use either double pointed needles, two circular needles, or Magic Loop, and knitters will learn the basics of knitting in the round, turning a heel, short rows and picking up stitches.

Questions?  Call us at (937) 429 – YARN.

Beginning Knitting

Beginning Knitting lessons will be offered every Saturday from 2-4pm. Whether you’ve never knit a stitch in your life or you’re returning after a hiatus this small class will help you become familiar with the craft. Each class is $10, come as often as you are able. Please call 429-YARN or stop by the store to make your reservation.
